I'm Good!

Every 13 minutes, a new name is added to the national transplant waiting list. Every day, 17 people die waiting for a life-saving organ transplant.
I have always thought that being an organ donor is something everyone should do. You don't need those organs when you are dead...why not give them to someone and potentially save their life? I have always wanted to be an organ donor and have always meant to sign up, but just never got around to it. I don't know what made me do it today, but I just finally looked it up online and signed up. I have to sign something when it comes to my house, but everything else is already taken care of. It took about 30 seconds. If you are interested in being an organ donor, and you live in Texas, please go to this website! :)
This has nothing to do with organ donation, but I was just watching TV and I saw a commercial that literally made me laugh out loud. I always DVR everything (anything I watch is previously recorded, then I fast forward the commercials), so I usually never see commercials. Well, I just turned the tv on to fold some clothes, and saw THIS commercial. It might be old, but I really did laugh out loud. Molly looked at me like I was crazy. I usually don't think this type of humor is that funny, but I guess I just happened to watch it when I was in the right mood. :)

I just watched the most ridiculous clip of Elisabeth Hasselback arguing against organ donation b/c "hasn't the government taken enough already!" as usual for Hasselback is was ridiculous. She spent most of the time arguing that she didn't want anyone else to have her uterus!

If Ms. Hasselback is unwilling to be an organ donor, then she should be ineligible to receive an organ transplant.

About 50% of the organs transplanted in America go to people who haven't agreed to donate their own organs when they die. As long as we let non-donors jump to the front of the waiting list if they need a transplant we'll always have an organ shortage.

There is a simple way to put a big dent in the organ shortage -- give organs first to people who have agreed to donate their own organs when they die.

Giving organs first to organ donors will convince more people to register as organ donors. It will also make the organ allocation system fairer. People who aren't willing to share the gift of life should go to the back of the waiting list as long as there is a shortage of organs.

Anyone who wants to donate their organs to others who have agreed to donate theirs can join LifeSharers. LifeSharers is a non-profit network of organ donors who agree to offer their organs first to other organ donors when they die. Membership is free at www.lifesharers.org or by calling 1-888-ORGAN88. There is no age limit, parents can enroll their minor children, and no one is excluded due to any pre-existing medical condition.
